About me

I decided to start Med Minds Psyscotherapy and use my skills to help others.  You can find out why and how I do it by reading on.

Dr Shani

Principal Therapist at Med Minds Psychotherapy

Dr Shani Anthony is a medical doctor and Tr health psychologist, and has qualified to become a psychotherapist.

I began my career as a medical doctor in 2000 and my career in psychology in the UK in 2006.  My decision to start a career in psychology from scratch was motivated by my intention to care for patients ‘as a whole’ and provide effective holistic solutions.

Having completed my BSc with honours in 2008 at the UK Open University, I gained an Advanced PGDip in Education and Child Development in 2010.

In 2014, I achieved a Masters in Health Psychology from the University of Derby then began my doctorate training at the British Psychological Society in 2015. That was completed it in July 2018.  During 2017, I obtained a PGC diploma in advanced CBT from the University of Cumbria, and in 2018, was awarded a certificate in 3rd wave CBT.

In 2022, I was awarded a certificate of non-diagnostic conditions.  Currently, I have completed my training and practice as a Health Psychologist, and I am in the process of obtaining a Charter in Health Psychology.

To maintain knowledge, I am now studying for a Master practitioner in CBT at SDS and also a PhD reader.

Since 2013, I have had the privilege of working as a consultant clinical health psychologist in healthcare in overseas, providing support and treatment to patients with mild to moderate mental health disorders through various therapeutic approaches, including CBT and other effective techniques.

From 2015, I was employed as a high intensity CBT therapist in NHS, UK while in training as a Health psychologist until 2019 where I gained immense experiences.

With my additional training and experience as a psychotherapist along with necessary memberships given me the opportunity to reach the current status.

My Passion

While treating my patients as a hospital doctor for physical ailments, I found that some wished to disclose their psychological issues to me.

This led to a shift in my career from medicine to psychology and psychological therapies.  It was driven by my passion for mind management and a growing fascination with its vast and expansive nature.

Holistic problem-solving

Helping you with my combined medical and psychological skill set can inspire unique solutions to your problem.

Having a medical background has greatly benefited my approach, particularly in terms of the knowledge I can integrate with the psychological aspects of a patient’s situation.

This allows me to assess and treat a patient effectively while considering all possible causes and perspectives of their case.
